From Hungary | In Anticipation

The members of the Hungarian Formation team GALA are all very excited about the prospect of competing in the WDSF World DanceSport Games 2013 in Kaohsiung in a few weeks. To demonstrate just how much, they sent a link to a video of their "Stamp Your Feet" performance. It was recorded in Zalaegerszeg, the hometown of GALA.

Meet Dance Kao and Sport Hsiung

The two mascots for the World DanceSport Games 2013 were designed by Ti-Wan Kung and her team at the Shu-Te University in Kaohsiung. The two likeable characters have very appropriate names assigned to them. In Chinese, the female dancer is θˆžι«˜, which could translate into "Dance Kao," and the male dancer is  θΉˆ ι›„ - Sport Hsiung. Dance and Sport were officially presented on 15 May with a short video shown during a media event that was held at the Kaohsiung Crown Plaza. Their colourful appearance not only makes a statement about the elegance and passion in DanceSport, but it also reflects “ocean” and “sunshine,” elements characteristic of the host city that is located along the southernmost coastline of Taiwan.

Rhino Stampede

The players of Kaohsiung's professional baseball team, the EDA Rhinos, seem to have the sequence of steps and other moves making up the "Stamp Your Feet" routine down pat. They were recently recorded as they were performing their "stampede" on the Chengcing Lake baseball field. Except for one or two players who tried to avoid attention in the back row, the team is ready to join the other Kaohsiung residents when the routine will be performed flash mob-style during the upcoming World DanceSport Games.

Do Your Dance in Kaohsiung

Project DYD (Do Your Dance) ties in with the WDSF World DanceSport Games 2013 Kaohsiung. When more than 700 athletes gather in the Taiwanese port city between 16 and 20 September this year, DanceSport will be the order of the day at the K-Arena and elsewhere. Competitions and workshops in the different dance styles should induce the Kaohsiung residents to give DanceSport a try themselves. For this reason, WDSF challenged the German choreographer Dirk Heidemann to come up with a choreography that could easily be learned and performed by everybody - young and old - and that could make for the Games' very own dance.

"Do Your Dance in Kaohsiung" is the slogan of the inaugural World DanceSport Games. When thousands of Kaohsiung residents join 800 games participants in a flash mob-style performance to the sounds of Donna Summer's "Stamp Your Feet," we will likely witness a magic moment, one that only dance can produce. Below is the teaser for the DYD Project, a series of instructional videos were also produced and sent to Kaohsiung. Training at schools, universities and even residences for seniors should be underway shortly.
